Understanding seniors’ housing terminology can be confusing at times. ASCHA’s work in this area led to the creation of a Common Terminology Report that can be found on their website; it contains three proposed main categories to try and group together seniors housing types for Albertans.

CORE (Collaborative Online Resources and Education)

CORE is an initiative put together by the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, Alberta Blue Cross, and the Government of Canada. It is a knowledge hub for Community-Based Seniors Serving (CBSS) organizations and allied agencies and individuals in Alberta. Alberta Health monitors all supportive living and long-term care accommodations for compliance to the Accommodation Standards, minimally on an annual basis. The purpose of the Accommodation Standards is to ensure accommodations maintain a high quality of accommodation services (e.g., meals, building maintenance, security, and housekeeping) that promote the safety, security, and quality of life of Albertans living in those accommodations.
